DNS Export is a free public utility that helps you look up DNS records, check propagation, and audit email security. This page explains exactly what data we collect, what we don't, and how the service works under the hood.
1. What we don't collect
We don't run accounts, so there is no login, no profile, no password, and no email collection. We don't set tracking cookies, we don't embed third-party analytics scripts (no Google Analytics, no Hotjar, no Mixpanel), and we don't have advertising on the site.
We don't log the domain names you look up. Each DNS query you make is forwarded to a public DNS-over-HTTPS resolver, the answer is rendered for you, and the request data is discarded.
2. What we do collect
Our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps short-lived edge logs of HTTP requests for operational and abuse-prevention purposes. These logs may include your IP address, the URL you visited, your browser's user-agent string, and a timestamp. We do not have access to these logs in a form that ties any specific DNS query to any specific visitor, and they are automatically rotated according to the host's retention policy.
For preferences such as light/dark theme and your last selected record types, we use your browser's localStorage. This data lives only on your device — we never see it. You can clear it at any time through your browser's site settings.
3. Third parties we contact on your behalf
When you submit a domain, our backend queries one or more of the following public DNS-over-HTTPS resolvers to fetch records:
- Cloudflare (
cloudflare-dns.com) — see Cloudflare's privacy policy - Google Public DNS (
dns.google) — see Google's privacy notice - AdGuard DNS (
dns.adguard-dns.com) — see AdGuard's privacy policy - AliDNS (
dns.alidns.com) — see Alibaba Cloud's privacy policy
These providers see your server-side request (originating from our infrastructure, not your IP). Each one has its own privacy policy linked above.
4. Cookies
We do not set cookies. Browser localStorage is used for UI preferences only and is not transmitted with HTTP requests.
5. Children
DNS Export is a technical tool not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
6. International users
If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California: because we do not collect personal data through this site, most provisions of the GDPR and CCPA do not apply to your use. Edge request logs held by our host are retained according to their published policy. You may contact us with any questions about your rights.
7. Changes
If we ever materially change how the site handles data, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will also be noted on the homepage.
